Napoleon Bonaparte was the emperor of France after the French revolution. He was a great leader, but also might be considered a dictator of sorts. After the revolution Napoleon was said to have brought peace to the people of France in a time of distress. When Napoleon was leader he ended up both upholding and undermining the ideals and goals of the French revolution. Napoleon upheld the revolution by creating equality for all men, and by making a meritocracy, but he also undermined it by taking away most if not all of the women's rights, and taking away freedom of the press.
Strength and leadership and a keen sense of political awareness helped Napoleon Bonaparte rise to power in the French government. "His drive for military expansion changed the world." Napoleon Bonaparte 's skills as a military leader helped him rise to become a better leader. He turned the small unmotivated army into a much larger, stronger army. One of Napoleon’s most impressive feats was conquering a good portion of Europe, including Spain, a lot of Italy, much of Germany, Egypt, Belgium, Holland, Austria, and Poland. He managed to do this while fighting against a lot of these countries, including England and Russia, two very powerful countries. “I fought successfully against the enemies of my country. What is most extraordinary, though, and I believe unmatched in history, is that I rose from being an average soldier to the astonishing height of power I possessed” (Document 12). This quotation, which Napoleon wrote in 1817 while being exiled on St. Helena illustrates how he amassed all the power he currently held.
In the 1700 and 1800s one great ruler arose from France. His name was Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon was one of the greatest rulers in the world. His legacy all started when he won the battle at the French port of Toulon. After this, he continued to win battles and he gained more power.
Napoleon Bonaparte once said, “I never was truly my own master but was always ruled by circumstance.” Perhaps his self evaluation was correct, but what he did with his circumstance was nothing less than genius for the man who would be Emperor. From his fighting tactics, his insight of people in general and his abilities to motivate the masses and his soldiers to conquer the world, he had the words and skills and the willingness to stand side by side with those from whom he expected so much. Not everyone can claim that they have changed the course of history as much as Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon, a very short but powerful leader, ruled France from 1804 to 1814. During his reign he was able to conquer multiple countries and install many beneficial plans and system for France. These acts however has created a huge rift in Napoleon’s image. He is either viewed as a hero or tyrant.

Although Napoleon was a triumphant commander early in his career, his following failures greatly detracted from his initial success. Other than military victories, success can be defined as achieving one’s goals; Napoleon’s main focus was power. Napoleon was extremely hungry for power, ambitiously elevating his position from a soldier to the Emperor of France, a position he created for himself. Napoleon successfully overthrew the dictatorial Directory in 1799, preventing France from falling prey to corrupt leadership.
“I saw the crown of France laying on the ground, so I picked it up with my sword.” On December 2, 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte boldly crowned himself Emperor of France. He wished to show that he was taking power, not being granted it by the church. From 1804 to 1814, then again in 1815 for the Hundred Days, Napoleon ruled. Much controversy evolved during his reign over whether he was advancing or reversing the spirit of the French Revolution.
Napoleon also, was a skilled military leader and became the first emperor of France. Napoleon was a French leader whom quickly rose through the ranks of military during the French revolution and drove his military to expansion and change in the western world. Although they cannot be compared in every way because Napoleon twice relinquished his authority in military leadership, in which Alexander would not have even dreamt of doing. SECTION IV: Alexander the Great should be placed in a time capsule because of his outstanding and notable achievements of brilliant commands and undefeatable battles. He was young and clever with his battle tactics so that he could save the world from imperial enslavement.
First, he gained military success by being victorious on his expedition in Egypt, by forcing the Hapsburg emperor to make peace, and by capturing most of northern Italy. After acquiring so much power, Napoleon believed he dominated the world and that he was the new emperor of France, believing the throne should not belong to anyone else but himself. His dream became reality so much that the confident guy he was known to be, ended up crowning himself at his coronation. Yes, he may be one to control, but we were definitely in need of a on hand leader even if he was going to be an ruler. Napoleon was not only aggressive on the battlefield, but as well as in office.

He is glorified for enlarging his country France, and he is usually the figure of nationalism in France. Napoleon Bonaparte rise up from being a general to being the emperor of France due to a large quantity of turmoil and mass executions. All this disturbance just created more chaos and lead Napoleon into taking the opportunity to rule France through a coup d’état.
Somehow though, Napoleon was able to rule for 18 years…
