Plato was one of the greatest Greek philosophers and was also considered as one of the most important personalities in history. He was known for his work in Apology, Phaedo, Symposium and Republic. The reason for Meno being so important is because it is probably one of the earliest dialogues created by Plato, and it starts off by Meno asking Socrates whether or not the virtue can be taught, and Socrates allures a slave boy to support his claim. Socrates asked the boy a mathematical question, and the boy answers the question completely wrong. This scenario was one of the first examples of mathematical problem.

In the beginning of book VI, Socrates makes a point by saying that philosophers have always been able to see things as they are versus people who see things as they vary and so he asks, who should rule? (484b) Socrates then launches into how philosophers are the ones who love the truth and want nothing and will not stand for anything, but the truth. (485c) It is because of that they should rule and so Socrates is asking for a philosopher-king who will seek nothing but the truth through knowledge and wisdom. This is the most important and boldest claim Plato makes in the defense of philosophy.
This can be related to the way the people will subsequently view their society and government. Plato’s society relies on the idea that people can be taught from a young age, by philosophers, how to behave, interact with others, and what to seek out in life. The society will be a utopia because power is given to philosophers who only seek wisdom and Platonic good rather than pleasures of gain. Such a virtuous society run by philosophers could never produce greed for power and capital in the way modern US society does. Plato also focuses on occupation and specialization.

One instance in my life, where seeing the truthful insight was disturbing, was when I, with the help of my family, saw that it was time to get out of an abusive relationship. Socrates started his life as an average Athen citizen. His parents worked, making an honest living. But as Socrates grew up, he began to realize that his mind questioned things and wondered how come no one else questioned the same things or at least think about the answers to the questions that were not answered. So, as his mind kept wandering, he began to acknowledge the questions that were not answered and sought for those answers. He ended up believing and teaching things to other people, whether it went against the way the Athen government or not, he still continued his work.

After Socrates was killed, Plato immediately wrote down all of Socrates teachings to keep record of them. In Plato's own writings, Socrates was usually the main character.

Being different from all the other philosophers of the land, Socrates was teaching his students ideas totally out of the ordinary from what the society believed was right.
