Nathaly Cornejo Professor Hernandez English I- Block A March 27, 2023 Risk taker or Cautious In the drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, Juliet is an important character that throughout the years inspires another character, Maria. Maria is a character that takes on the original Juliet with a twist in, West Side Story directed by Steven Spielberg. Since the beginning, you can see these two women have many similarities but also big differences. Nonetheless, there is a connection between the both of them. In their relationships, Juliet takes the bigger risks and is more immature in order to be with Romeo unlike Maria, shows more caution and more maturity when it comes to being with Tony. Juliet shows she’s a risk taker but at the same time she also shows immaturity. The immaturity is expected since she’s really young. “ If that thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow… And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay, and follow thee my lord throughout the world” (2.2.142-143, 146-147). During the balcony scene Juliet says she is willing to leave all her fortunes behind and follow Romeo, who she had just met a couple of hours before, and go travel with him wherever he wants to take her.
