Rosa Parks was a very kind and brave person. She was a role model for a lot of people and a big part of the Civil Rights Movement. She fought to stop unfair laws and discrimination for African Amaricans. How would it feel to have to stand on the back of the bus even though there are unused seats in the front of the bus? You might feel like you're not important or not worthy to sit in the front or maybe you might feel like you're being disrespected. Rosa parks knew that it was wrong and that she was not going to keep letting it happen.

Segregation was a way that African Americans were being mistreated and had their human and civil rights violated. African Amaricans were not allowed to drink from the same water fountain or use the same bathroom as whites (virginiahistory.org). In the 1940s you would still see whites only signs by businesses in the north. (History.com) African Amaricans had to go to different schools. What were the Jim Crow laws? Jim Crow laws were a collection of state and local statutes that legalized racial segregation. Named after a Black minstrel show character, the laws which existed for about 100 years from the post-Civil War era until 1968. “They were meant to marginalize African Americans by denying them the right to vote, get jobs or get an education.” says History.com. The racial violence they had to face was horrible. Police would spray peaceful protesters with fire hoses. They would unleash dogs on them. They would also beat them with wooden bats. Rosa parks did not like seating for African Americans on buses. Rosa Parks waited for the Cleveland Avenue bus to take her home from her job as a seamstress at Montgomery Fair. Rosa let a full bus go by before she finally boarded the bus being driven by James F. Rosa Parks was riding the Cleveland Avenue bus when she was arrested on December 1 1955. Rosa was a fighter for peace in humanity and a big role model. “Her efforts, alongside others in Montgomery, helped turn a local struggle into a national movement.” says loc.gov Parks became involved in the Civil Rights Movement as early as December 1943. Rosa fought for equal rights and to stop discrimination for a little bit more than fifty years. Rosa Parks attended the 1963 March on Washington. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference invited Rosa Parks to be a part in the 1963 March on Washington. Shortly after arriving Rosa discovered that she and other civil rights leaders would march in a separate procession. Rosa was in this march to demand an end to segregation, fair wages and economic justice, voting rights, education, and long overdue civil rights protections.
