The olympics are athletic games that first started in Greece. These games were later revived and are now seen as massive global athletic events that bring the world together and are held every four years. The olympics between 1892 to 2002 brought together cultures due to bringing together nations regardless of wars while simultaneously divided nation’s teams because of countries enforcing their own political agendas onto their athletes, such as Nazi Germany making their athletes prove how Nazism is better than democracy. Women were also beginning to participate in the games and at first were barely participating in the games, economically the olympics became more and more expensive throughout the years and became a cash pit for large companies
These past few weeks I have read the book The Brass Verdict, written by Michael Connelly, and is the second installment in the Haller series. This marvelous book was published on October 14, 2008 and is 422 pages in length. The crime and fiction novel is based around the main character named Michael (Mickey) Haller, who is a defense attorney in the city of Los Angeles. Despite spending a year recovering from his wounds, as well as an addiction to painkillers from the previous installment, Mickey is requested to return to his career of law after an old defense attorney friend of his, Jerry Vincent, was murdered. He is called to take on Vincent's workload, which contains many cases, such as the notorious trial of Walter Elliott.
Who knew a leader of a country that was so racist and cruel, known as Adolf Hitler, would host 1936 Olympics held in Berlin, Germany. Hitler did not like sports, but he still had to host the games as they were awarded to Berlin prior to Hitler taking power. Instead of being known as the Berlin Olympics they were called the Nazi Olympics. The Nazi Olympics came at an important time during World War II and was a distraction from the actual war going on. Hitler used the Olympics to help build support for his Nazi movement.
At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, “African American sprinter Jesse Owen amazed the world by breaking records and winning, four gold medals in Berlin, the headquarters of Hitler’s Nazi regime” (Jesse Owens). Owens shocked the world when he won four gold medals in one olympic. He shocked Americans and Hitler, but mostly Hitler. Hitler became really mad and left the stadium so he wouldn't have to congratulate Jesse Owens. Also, “Owen became known not only for his athletic triumphs but for his epic embrace with Aryan German competitor Luz Long and for the social barriers he broke down in the face of Hitler’s Nazi regime.
Character Response Laurie Halse Anderson the writer of the novel “Speak” portrays the struggles of teenage depression. Melinda a Freshman student who has been taking advantage of by an upper-class man at a high school summer party suffers through depression. Her depression builds under pressure after losing her best friends, family problems and the fact that she is an outcast at her school. Melinda’s mother and school teachers perceive Melinda as a quiet, troubled, teenager who refuses to speak, when truly Melinda is traumatized from her experience at the summer party. When being held at a parent conference, for example, Melinda does not speak out loud once.
There are two specific Olympic Games - held in Germany- that had significant actions occur. The 1936 Berlin Olympics were better known to many as “Hitler's Games” or the “Nazi Olympics”. According to Rodden, The International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to not let Germany compete in the previous two Olympic Games for kindling the start of World War 1. In the early 1930s, the IOC decided to let Germany’s Weimar Republic hold the 1936 Games as a “welcome back to sports Germany.” This all took place before Hitler gained control of Germany and created the Nazi party.
The Olympic games have been around for a long time, and within that time they've shaped into something new. The Games have reformed especially in the aspect of who gets to compete. Firstly, the Olympic games hit some bumps in the road when the many different countries faced nationalism, like the conflict between the countries as a result of wanting to win. Secondly, there were people who wanted the games to return to bring peace, like the organizers of previous games. Also, there were some people who wanted the Olympic for financial reasons.
However what is majorly overlooked is the fact that the most famous athlete of his time, his outstanding displays of athletic abilities at the 1936 Olympic Games that captivated the world even as it infuriated the Nazis. Despite the racial slurs he endured, Jesse Owens ' grace and athleticism rallied crowds across the globe. But when the four-time Olympic gold medalist returned home, he could not even ride in the front of a bus. The events that followed in Germany, namely the Holocaust and World War II overshadowed the Berlin games. However, it is very important that a world gathering like the Olympics could take place in a country that was in the process of eliminating an entire race of people and yet the world stood
The Olympics are generally a time of fun competition to bring the world together. In 1936, it was for Nazi propaganda. The 1936 Olympics led one athlete, Jesse Owens, to success and broke Hitler’s racial theories. The Berlin Olympics was an opportunity for Hitler to prove Aryan suppurity, unfortunately the ban of Jewish athletes didn’t settle well with the IOC. This resulted into a boycott, until Hitler agreed to take down any Nazi propaganda.
With most of the rules in place, the basketball courts defined, specific uniforms and shoes, and the equipment upgraded, basketball as we know it now was coming into shape. Colleges had two major championship tournaments: The National Invitational Tournament

Despite this knowledge, the United States chose to participate in the Olympics. One of the most famous athletes of the Olympics was Jesse Owens.

During the Olympics, the Nazis tried to cover their hate for jews, Hitler wanted his master race to reign supreme, but Jesse Owens had other plans, Jesse’s early life set him up for success. There were many revolutionary things that happened during the 1936 Olympics. The controversies surrounding it where just a small part.

The 1936 Olympics hosted in Berlin, Germany was perfect. What did I already know about my topic? Prior to researching about the “Berlin Games” I knew quite a few things about World War 2 but, on the other hand, not so much about what happened before that.
