Ideal figure to track popular culture in the twentieth century. Played an important role in the development of the recording, radio, and film industries. Over 400 hit singles. More hits than any other musician. Crosby got his start in radio. Had a hit radio show. Which was listened to by half of America in the 1930’s. In the ‘40s, tops at the box office with three of the most popular movies. Nicknamed Der Bingle by the press, Crosby got the name of Bing at the age of 7. Because he sang a short song called “The Bingville Bugle.” Helped make jazz popular.
