The ascension of Theodore Roosevelt to the presidency marked a dramatic turning point in bringing meaningful reform in America because he was the first ever president to lead hands on and believed that the government should serve as an agent of reform for the people. Roosevelt abandoned his Republican counterparts’ ideals of a ‘laissez-faire’ economy and turned to helping the American people through welfare programs and minimum wage laws. Above all, Theodore Roosevelt served as a voice for the masses and implemented what they had long desired. Around 1902, exposing the evils of industries, politicians and the rich and famous was a very hot industry.

American voters became more influential in presidential elections because of the events that took place during the Jacksonian and Progressive Eras. In the Jacksonian Era, some voting restrictions were removed, voting became more private, the public was more informed about politics, and voters were taken into greater consideration by presidential candidates. In the Progressive Era, better living conditions, the fight against corruption, and other political reforms made it easier for the working class to vote for candidates that they favored. These events gave voters a greater influence in politics and made elections more fair. During the Jacksonian Era, states began to give citizens a larger influence over presidential elections.

The progressive era is a critical period in the history of the national construction of the United States and a critical period of national governance. Since the middle of the nineteenth Century, the United States has experienced great and rapid economic and social changes. In the promotion of liberal capitalism, in the past few decades, the U.S. economy rapid industrialization, the United States showed a rapid economic growth, creating a hitherto unknown economic prosperity, the United States also from an agricultural society rapid transformation into an industrial society, to the agricultural industry and handicraft industry dominated capitalist economy quickly turns to large companies as the core of corporate capitalism. Progressive Era Reforms During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the United States was experiencing a time of widespread reform. This movement brought great changes to multiple fields and areas in the United States. These reforms were ideas that improved the quality of life for working and normal citizens in the United States. Two such examples of these movements are found in reforms made within the working and living conditions across America.
The Progressive Movement of the late 1800's and the early 1900's was one of the most influential political movements in American history. The Progressives sought to shift power away from political elites and into the hands of the citizenry (Howell, 2011). Progressive reformers did not limit their efforts in improving urban conditions and to reform political systems. Their ideas influenced business and educational practices. They attempted to improve the overall quality of life for many Americans.
In September of 1901 President William McKinley was assassinated and Theodore Roosevelt became president. President Roosevelt invoked the Sherman Antitrust Act, which went against the Northern Securities Company, which was a railroad company, and the Supreme Court ordered the company to dissolve. Many of his actions showed his independence from big business. Roosevelt was reelected on the “square deal”. Many of the Progressive reforms came from the Populist program, but populism failed because it was a rural protest.
The Progressive Era, from 1900-1917, was a time when problems were solved, tactics were used to solve them, and foundations were laid for future reforms. During this time, steps and precautions were laid that regulated business, rights, government, and life as we know it. A major goal of this time was the exploitation of the corrupt aspects of the government. After the goals and reforms were met during this time, America became better and better in the eyes of reform groups and activists.
Often times, many people are associated with the Progressive Era. However, the most important people in the time period are the presidents, because they are the people in charge of making changes to politics and helping society, whether it be about consumers, women, children, nature, or otherwise. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, and Woodrow Wilson made great impacts during the Progressive Era. Most of the changes that happened at that time still impact our lives today.
The Progressives Era was semi successful in terms of reforming society for the rights of the middle class, women, children, and the poor. During this time three new amendments were passed in effort to change the american society. Politically, during this era the 17th amendment was passed allowing direction election of senators, and put the initiative and referendum law into place. The 16th amendment created a graduated income tax and the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. Socially, reformers worked on getting workers a shorter work day, eliminating child labor, and fixing health issues.
During the Progressive Era, a period of reform in the early twentieth century sparked by rapid industrialization, immigration, and urbanization, three presidents raced to improve our country in three different areas. These men being Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, three progressive presidents who tackled attacking big businesses, the abuse of the working class, and environmental destruction. Although all three of the progressive presidents made many efforts of reform during this time period, Theodore Roosevelt was the most overall progressive president, for he gained control of corporations, fought for consumer protection, and conserved many natural resources using his “Square Deal” policy. During this time
1900-1920, that was a time period to address the issues created during the Gilded Age. The Progressive Era addressed a lot of issues, some issues were about women 's voting rights,and civil rights, while other issues addressed things like food, drugs, child labor, etc. These issues needed to be addressed and a few people decided to stand up and address them, like Upton Sinclair, Susan B. Anthony, and a few others, these people saw an issue and decided they would confront it, some of them wrote books, went on strike, decided to protest, they all had something in common though, they all decided to fight for what they thought was the right choice. These people who addressed these issues, they changed the face of America, not only by addressing these issues, but by giving new opportunities to other people. The Jungle, also known as a famous book written by Upton Sinclair, who was a famous muckraker, a muckraker is a journalist who exposes social injustice, Sinclair wrote this book to expose the meat packaging companies, he talked about all the bad things that were happening in the companies.
The progressive era was moderately effective from achieving social reform and lowering the influence of businesses over the people. An example would be the women's movement in 1800s. The women's suffrage movements were a constant struggle with lot’s of strikes and protests. Finally in 1920 the 19th amendment came to past allowing women to vote federally. Another example would be the passing of building heath codes, and fire safety regulations.
Throughout the ages women have faced varying degrees of sexism and during the progressive era this was a very prominent issue, women had finally had enough of being treated as second class compared to white males and simply males in general. They weren’t allowed to vote, own property if married, they were extremely restricted in what types of jobs they could get and often encouraged to just stay home, not to mention the large wage gap between white males and white females ensuring that on their own women would be hard pressed to survive. In many of the divorce cases the women were still required to take care of the children even though the male technically had custody. Sexism all though not as prominent today is still a very big issue, ranging
