The Mongomery Bus Boycott; 1955-1956
The Montgomery bus boycott worked toward ending the racist ideology of late 1950 to early 1960 America by ending racially segregated buses. The first action that started the boycotts was the arrest of Rosa Parks. Secondly, the abuse of colored people on public transportation. Lastly, peaceful protest that was often turned violent by opposing views. The Montgomery bus boycott used actions such as boycotting buses to inspire people to change the ways of their life due to the arrest of Rosa Parks, how black riders were often treated, and when peaceful protests turned violent.

Rosa Parks's experience with unreasonable bus drivers includes, “While the other three black passengers obediently gave up their seats, Parks refused. The bus driver stopped the bus, called the police and Parks was arrested.”(Slanders). There were more seats open, but instead of sitting down the bus driver continued to threaten Parks that he would call the police. Many more seats were open, not only would the boarding passenger have sat somewhere else, he simply could have stood. Many called the police on “disobedient” passengers but opposing views would often put targets on important figures in the civil movement. An article stated that “Bombs damage the homes of King and Nixon on February 21, 1956, the city accused 89 African Americans of breaking a law prohibiting boycotts, Dr. King was arrested, found guilty, and fined $500 plus and additions $500 in court cost.”( The Mongomery Bus Boycotts-1955-1956). Not only did bombs damage King's home but he was charged with crimes of boycotting and protesting; leaving him to pay fines of 500 dollars in 1955 which equates to 5,565.50 dollars in 2023. Many people did not agree with ending segregation, but to take steps that would be seen as a murder attempt is not acceptable.
