Homer is one of the most influential writers in the history of Ancient Greece and even all time. Ancient Greece is considered to be a time period of great prosperity and a great time to be alive. In Ancient Greece poetry was very popular during the time and it was considered to be an art that only few could compose. Homer was and is one of the most famous authors that has ever lived. He influenced society and literature in so many ways and his influence is 2nd to none. The whole reason why poetry became popular during Ancient Greece was because Homer paved the way (Johnson). It started during the Archaic Age, Homer composed The Iliad and Odyssey which is one of the most epic stories in the history.

Homer composed 2 stories that have influenced his time and the modern world we live in today. The Iliad and the Odyssey are his 2 famous stories (Johnson). The Iliad was a poem about the greeks attacking the holy city of Troy. The Odyssey showed and displayed great excellence. The poems motivate us to be our best with whatever we do. For example Achilles in the Iliad choose death to get the win rather than returning home safe and sound. In the Odyssey, Odysseus found his way home after he spent a long 10 years trying to make the return home that shows so much inner determination and it motivates us to do our best. Undoubtedly Homer's writings are the most popular writings in all of the Greek culture. The writings given by Homer are still used in modern day schooling all over the world but not nearly as extensive as it used to be. No writer, poet, author, or novelist has ever come close to passing Homer in any way shape or form and that is the main reason why we still have influence from him today(Johnson). His writings have survived such a long time and sometimes his writings were actually lost and rediscovered over time. No one knows exactly why the writings survived such a long time but there's no question that they are and will always be great
