Rome was built on the banks of the Tiber River and was in a very good place geographically. The capital had access to the Mediterranean and was protected in the north by the alps. The Roman empire grew huge over time and today is known as the only power to control the entire coast/shoreline of the Mediterranean sea. Over time the empire had many different rulers with many different strengths. Rome prospered and expanded during a time period called the “Pax Romana”, which took place during 27 BCE-14 CE. After this time period is a time when there were “The Good Emperors”. This took place during 96 CE-180 CE. The Roman Empire just seemed to keep growing. The organized civil services, many conquered lands, achievements in engineering and technology, and the strong military, all increased the strength of the empire. Although the empire had many things going for it, some issues began to occur. There were many contributors to the fall of Rome, although the two that stuck out the most to me and seemed to make the most impact in the fall, were; the size and greatness of the empire, and the extensive economic complications. …show more content…

With a lack of good transportation and communication, it became challenging for the emperors to govern such a large nation. Along with the struggles to govern the empire, there were struggles to protect it. The emperor's each seemed to be oblivious to the amount of enemies they had that were directly targeting the empire. When other nations ( Visigoths, began to attack the empire, the army was not nearly big nor strong enough to hold the foes off. Eventually, a time came when the empire began to hurt itself. It became too big to handle, while other issues occurred, and it was too big to mend each tear in its intricately built
