How Did The Romans Road Affect The Spread Of Christianity

For over four thousand years roads have been in existence serving an array of different purposes but there is one road in particular that has greatly impacted the spread of Christianity throughout Eastern Europe. That road is known as the Romans Road and I chose this topic out of an immense interest in knowing more about this grand architectural construction that has stood the test of time. The Romans Road expands over fifty-three thousand miles reaching from Britain to Spain and all the way over to northern tip of Africa. With the implementation of the Roman Roads and now the ability to traverse much of the great European country side the spread of Christianity began is journey across this newfound land. The everlasting importance of the Roman Roads to the spread of Christianity is inseparable because, without the roads many great Christian scholars like Paul would have never been able to get around with a sense of ease planting an array of churches along his way. In essence, The Romans Road has become one of the greatest inventions man has ever made and with its formation; many have come to know Christ through its existence (Roman Roads: Building, Linking, and Defending the Empire, 2013).

the first Roman Road was built, it was named Via Appia meaning the Appian Way. At first, many of the roads were used by the Military for the purposes of having a rapid means of getting to an offensive or defensive during battles. With this strategic setup of a road system Rome was able to build supply routes between their allies and further expand their empire. Ironically enough much of Rome’s road expansion came through their conquest and they were used to bridge the gaps between conquered cities in the empire.
