The sinking was not only due to human error; it can seem like that night the odds were conspiring against the ship. At that time The Titanic was just moving from the warmer Gulf Stream, into the freezing Labrador Current. The air columns were cooling from the bottom to the top this created thermal inversion and high air pressure kept the sky fog free. This thermal inversion reflected light strangely and created a mirage where objects appeared higher and nearer that they actually were, creating a false horizon. The Titanic was warned about ice, but the fact that there was no moon that night made it hard for lookouts to find ice. Newspapers baring headlines about the tragedy were released all over the world, letting people know what became of the “unsinkable” ship. Articles were published in a wide variety of magazines telling the story and trying to explain the event. In the year that followed, over 100 songs were published telling the story (Gregg). In the years leading up to 1955, Walter Lord, a writer who had been fascinated by the Titanic since he was a child, found and contacted many survivors and listened to their stories. He compiled these stories and turned them into the book: A Night to Remember, which rose to twelfth place on the New York Times best seller list and is still being sold today. Rights were sold and it was adapted into a televised drama in America, and movies in Britain and Ireland. Even after his book was published, Lord continued to collect stories and memorabilia (Wilson). Entertainment medias such as television are just that, entertainment. This means that they are created to catch peoples’ attention and do not always tell the full story. A person reading an article or seeking out a book shows interest. It shows that they care enough about a subject to spend days reading a book, to take time and learn more of the
