The Cold War was an icy rivalry that developed between the United States and the Soviet Union after World War II. This rivalry first developed because the two conflicting nations had different ideas of successful economies. The United States believed that capitalism, in which private owners control trade and industry was more efficient than Communism, in which the state or government control trade and industry. In addition, many of the events that occurred at The Yalta Conference played a significant role in the cause of this era of competition that lasted from 1947 to 1991. At Yalta, Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin agreed that Poland’s government would include members of the pre-war Polish government and that free elections would be held
The Yalta Conference dealt with four problems. The first one was the status of Poland. Roosevelt and Churchill agreed that Poland should be able to choose its own government. The Polish leader who left Warsaw when Germany invaded demanded that pre-war anti-Russia and anti-communist government was seen as the real Polish government. Stain, who had set up his own little government before Yalta had no intention of giving the power back to the Polish leaders who had left Warsaw.
After World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union became superpowers due to their nuclear capabilities, had political and ideological rivalry which caused many events in the Cold War between 1945 and 1991. It was a “cold” war because there was no direct fighting between the two nations, but both wanted to prevent the other from spreading their political or economic ideas to other countries. The Soviets sought to spread communism while the United States adopted a policy of containment. After the cold war happen then came the containment act. Containment was when the Soviet Union and soviet communism shouldn’t be allowed to spread. The policy of containment was to expand the soviet policy an then the American policy was to containment. Both armies were coming from opposite sides of Europe at this time. Both Russians and Americans cut Hitler’s Germany into two pieces.
Tensions were very high between the Soviet Union and America at the end of WWII, and would only continue to escalate. America and the USSR rarely agreed and during WWII they were only able to work together because of the common enemy of Germany. At this point in time the USSR was communist and expanding their hold on land around them. At the Yalta conference in 1945, America and Great Britain agreed to give the Soviet Union control over Poland and Ukraine, and in return the Soviets agreed to use free elections in those countries. The Soviets went back on their word and ruled with communism.

The Cold War was a “hybrid” war between the United States and the Soviet Union that started right after the end of World War II in 1947 (Two Super…). Both countries had strong political tensions toward each other. During the Cold War, although the two countries did not battle each other militarily, as a result of all the escalating tensions, the threat of an outright war made all parties nervous. The two countries, along with each other’s allies, differed in their opinions on postwar arrangements, with the Soviets backing out of their promise in the Yalta agreement, they were more interested in the spread of communism in the post WWII era.
In early February of 1945 Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin D. Roosevelt met to make a plan for the postwar world. This was called the Yalta Conference, and because of it the world was set up for a confrontation that would last for 45 years. As a result of this conference the Soviets gained most of Eastern Europe and half of Germany, and the Allied powers kept control of all of Western Europe and the other half of Germany. The Soviets gained a lot of power from this conference and used it in hostile ways, such that in the US the tensions were high and fear of communism was growing. US citizens felt as if communism could take away their right to life and liberty, and this was reflected in the acts of the government.
The Yalta conference and the Potsdam conference were two sessions or meetings held during the Second World War. , These conferences were held for The Big Three to manage their differences and come to several agreements among themselves. The Big Three included the United States (USA), Great Britain and the Soviet Union (USSR/Russia). The Big Three – also referred to as The Grand Alliance – were always known to be enemies and weren’t fond of each other, although had one thing in common and that was their hatred for Germany. They all had this recurring hatred for Germany, and would do anything to watch it burn to the ground, to the point of uniting with one another to help defeat Germany.

One of the major challenges that America faced after WWII was the cold war between the U.S and the U.S.S.R as a result of the ideological differences between the two. The cold war 1947-52 is the period where the cold war from the Truman doctrine in 1947 to the conclusion of the Korean war in 1953. The cold war began almost immediately following World War 2. The cold war was about a relationship between the United States and the allies and the Soviet Union and their allies. However, the cold war was not like other wars, the two opponents never went into battle. Some main things that happened in the cold war was Berlin’s wall, Korean War, Cuban Missile crisis and more.
As outlined in chapter 10 of the course text, inequality in housing and wealth is a major problem. The United States is described to be the most unequal countries in the western hemisphere. But with the inequalities when it comes to wealth, the United States is one of the richest countries in the world. Wealth is the sum total of a person’s assets. These assets include, cash in the bank and value of all properties, not only land but houses, cars, stocks, and bonds, and retirements savings.
