The Roaring Twenties Our country went though many forceful changes during the Great War or World War 1 as it was later called. Many people today are uninformed about the prosperity of our country during World War 1 and the “Roaring Twenties”. The Roaring 20s, the era following World War I, was a time of free-living enjoyment as the money was superfluous and the people were ready to forget the devastation of the war by living exuberantly. Unfortunately, before this time of free-living enjoyment and fun, our country had to go through war and change. World War I altered America in many different ways: such as, the American economy, the culture, and even the people. During World War I the American economy blossomed as we supplied the warring world with munitions and food while they were heavily involved in the fighting of the war. Americans were asked to be patriotic and save food. Many people of World War 1 experienced many different things that impacted the remainder of their lives such as the senseless loss of loved ones and the loss of purpose and money. They all handled this differently as Helen Thomas stated, “she turned to writing to deal with her grief” (Pendergast 157). Some American writers could not embrace the changes that were occurring so they sought refuge in Europe, specifically Paris, where they could escape the changing religious and moral behavior of young Americans. Ernest Hemingway was one of the most famous writers during the Lost Generation (Godin). The lost generation was a new age in history that was a group of American writers of men and
