World War Two managed to completely change American society in numerous ways. One of the aspects transformed was US’s foreign policy. Before the war, US was an isolationist. They had neutrality acts to keep them from engaging in Europeans armed hostilities, refused to join the League of Nations and the world court, and were overall not involved in world affairs. After WW2, the United States frequently intervenes, never retreats, they also have military bases all around the world, they joined the League of Nations (which they stationed in NY), and were overall more active in foreign policy. Economics also changed substantially compared to the previous years. Before the war, the U.S. was suffering through the Great Depression where the people did not care for opportunity, since they were focused solely on achieving financial security. However, as mentioned in class, the U.S. economy was changed greatly due to increased production. Since America had to meet its own needs and its allies, and victory relies on production of weapons to win, we were pumping out weapons. Taking into consideration the Butter and Guns curve mentioned in class, the us was operating to satisfy both desires (e.g. schools and guns) which, as the guy said in the movie, made the us use lipstick tubes as bullets. Then, this means pay increased. A gentleman said that his pay rose from .40 to 1 to around 2. This let people pay the things they always wanted, which contributed to consumption. No longer did he wait for hand-me-downs, which contributed to a new man, so to speak. Women were also admitted into the work force which increased economy as well.
