There are many different things that can have an effect on American elections. There are political parties, which nominate a candidate and try to support that candidate, but also try to shoot the opposing candidates down. Interest groups, who try to influence a candidate to pass a certain law that benefits them, by donating money to their campaign. Also, there is the media, which can portray a certain candidate as good, as well as bad, to try give the person they want to win, the best shot at winning the election. The media has the most effect on elections in America, because there are so many different ways the media gets out to the American public and can portray the candidates in a way that can make or break their nomination. This information can make or break a candidate’s campaign and the election process for that individual. The media has so many different way of getting information out to the public. Through television, the newspaper, even social media, which is becoming huge in campaigns. There are different channels on television that like to portray certain political parties as good or bad. Like President Obama said in a press conference at Boise State, “Our media is all segmented now so that instead of just watching three stations, we got 600. And everything is market-segmented, and you got the conservative station and the liberal stations.” This shows that different television channels or stations have a bias toward one side or another of politics. When the public watches a certain channel of television they seem to trust the anchors on that channel. The anchors will somehow hint at their political views and it seems that the viewers trust what they
