Using empathy from To Kill a Mockingbird in real-world scenarios, I remember an important moment when I was in elementary school, I remember a situation that happened during recess in second grade. This situation gave me important lessons in empathy and understanding others' perspectives. I was playing a game of cops and robbers with my friends, and then all of a sudden one of my friends tried to run away from his jail cell, he hit his head on the slide, which caused him to get hurt. Instead of owning up to the mistake, he said I hit him, which left me feeling angry and at a loss of class dojo points. This helped me understand why he did that. Instead of being angry at his wrongdoing, I instead tried to talk to him about the situation. This was an important conversation where we shared the way we saw the incident from our point of view, so we could see how the other person felt. Through this conversation, we talked about what emotions the situation made us feel and how we will prevent it in the future. This conversation helped make it so we continued to be friends. This situation helped me realize the importance of empathy, and by talking to him about the situation, I learned how to understand what others were going through. We can have empathy by recognizing and accepting others' points of view. The incident I had on the playground can serve as a good way to see how even a little empathy can go a long way. It also shows how we should always look into another point of view to see what another person might be feeling or going through.
