The game of basketball has influenced my life in meaningful ways. In fact, school doesn’t even compare to it. People think basketball is just a sport and there’s no sentimental value in it. However, what people don’t understand school isn’t the only important thing in life. Everyone is diverse and learn in different ways. One of the ways basketball has influenced is my life is allowing me to connect with many different people. It’s the reason why I have some of the friends I have today. In addition, basketball taught me how to start a debate and think critically. In basketball, there’s an assortment of opinions you can have. As a result, this leads to numerous debates with people. When it comes to a debate, I always want to win. In order to win, I have to provide strong evidence. More importantly, each person in the argument has to think critically and analyze the situation. One of the easiest way to start an argument is to say something is better than the other thing. For example, saying Lebron is better than Kobe. I was in 8th grade at the time. I was bored watching television and was scrolling through the channels. I stopped and decided to click on the Bulls vs Heat game. It was the start of the second quarter, the score was 22-24 with the Heat leading. I remember watching the Bulls’ starting point guard, Derrick Rose play. I was so amazed and moved by the way he played basketball. He was cutting through the defense and scoring the basketball from a variety of angles. Rose made difficult moves in basketball look effortless. Despite the Bulls losing a close game, I was an instant fan of the team afterwards. I had it set in my mind already: I was gonna start playing basketball.
