In our life, it’s the risks we take that make change grow. “A ship is always safe at the shore - but that is NOT what it is built for.” This quote by Albert Einstein is about how sometimes in life, to be truly successful and useful we must take risks even if they put us in uncomfortable or dangerous situations. We will never grow if we first do not step out of our comfort zone. This essay is about a Hobbit who takes a risk and it changes his life forever.
In the beginning of the book, THE HOBBIT, we meet Bilbo. Bilbo is a well respected Hobbit. He lives in the Shire and goes about minding his own business. He enjoys staying where he is comfortable and where things are predictable. He believes that life should stay simple and plain, and that there is no time for adventures. On page 15, Bilbo says so himself. “I have no use for adventure, nasty disturbing uncomfortable things.” Little did he know that he would soon be dragged out on an adventure due to a crafty wizard named Gandalf. Eventually Bilbo starts to get used to the high paced and action packed journey! I think that the main turning point for him is in chapter five. After Bilbo has his game of riddles with Gollum and escapes from the clutches of the Goblins, he returns and finds his companions the Dwarves. It is through this event that he gains their respect and begins to believe that he can do more then stay at home and drink his afternoon tea. He finds a part of himself, a strength that he never knew existed. He is no longer a boat sitting on the shore,
