Shakespeare exposes the cutthroat politics of Rome through the speeches of Brutus and Antony in his play Julius Caesar. This play epitomizes the benefits of using rhetorical devices in a persuasive speech. Antony applies the modes ethos, logos, and pathos to establish credibility, provide evidence, and evoke emotion throughout his eulogy to Caesar. Preceding Antony’s speech was that of the senator, and friend of Caesar, Brutus. Conclusively, Antony’s use of rhetorical devices surpasses Brutus’s; Antony successfully persuades the crowd that Brutus’s speech posed as a clever ruse to justify his cold-blooded murder.
After the Brutal murder of the "dictator" of Rome a formal burial in remembrance was made. The group of conspirators and a few others try and band together to make speeches to give at the ceremony. The conspirators all think that Mark Anthony is going to give a very controversial speech that is going to end in an all-out brawl to lead to anarchy. On the other hand, Brutus doesn't think that Mark Anthony is capable of such a thing so he only prepares a speech that is short, concise, and authoritative. He did not expect Anthony to pull out a huge well thought out speech that would lead to a blood bath.
In the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare , Brutus and Antony both have different ways of getting the people’s attention through their speeches. Brutus and Antony appeal to ethos, logos, and pathos. Both use them differently to manipulate the people. Brutus uses them to confuse the people to justify the killing of Caesar. Antony uses them to take advantage of the plebeians and turn them against Brutus.
I feel like Mark Antony did a lot better than Brutus in using pathos. Pathos is Mark Antony’s most strategically used form of speech. He uses a little bit of pathos in his first speech saying that “He was my friend, faithful and just to me” (4), This says Caesar was a good man, and was unjust to murder. Antony then talks about the stabs in Caesar, he points out the stabs of Casca and Cassius, but doesn’t bring much attention to them. Then he brings attention to Brutus’s stab, Antony says “This was the most unkind cut of them all” (8), He then gets angry, and so do his fellow Romans.
In Act III, Scene 2 of the Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Antony transformed the mourning crowd into an angry mob. He delivered a more effective speech by using persuasive techniques while he was speaking, that appealed to the audience in different ways. For example, Antony utilised ethos, pathos, and logos to completely alter the mood of the mob. Out of the three persuasive techniques, pathos was used most frequently throughout the tragedy. During Marc Antony’s speech at Caesar’s funeral, he used ethos which relates to ethics or morals to deviate individuals of what they previously thought.
In the famous play of Julius Caesar, ethos-, logos-, and pathos-based persuasive techniques are used in the funeral speeches, coming first from Brutus and then Marc Antony, to influence the people of Rome to view Caesar's death as either an asset or a downfall. Brutus, closest friend and murderer of Caesar, takes a stand in front of the crowd of Romans, intending to enlighten his positive outlook upon the situation. In order to convince his audience, Brutus insists that Caesar was too ambitious, and that type of ambition would bring Rome to ruins
The assassination of Julius Caesar caused a lot of controversy and change in the minds of people in Rome. In the story, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, Mark Antony addresses the crowd of Romans at Caesar’s funeral to persuade the people to take his side and believe his word of what really happened to Caesar and why. In Antony’s ardent speech to the commoners in Rome during Caesar’s funeral, Antony logically makes use of ethos, logos, and pathos to argue that the people of Rome and supporters of the conspirators should trust him instead of Brutus. Consequently, this makes the people believe Antony and start a riot over the controversy. One way that Antony tries to convince the people to trust him is through the ethos
In the Tragedy of Julius Caesar, both Brutus and Mark Antony give speeches after Caesar's death. Both Brutus and Mark Antony give persuasive speeches. However, they each used rhetorical devices in different ways in order to persuade the people of Rome. Both speeches use Ethos to appeal to credibility, Pathos to appeal to emotion, and Logos to appeal to the content and arrangement of the argument.
Persuasion is a big part of the speeches and there is a lot of jelousy and greed. Greed leads people to jelousy and that is never a good thing to happen. Jelousy can lead people to do things they usually wouldn’t do. Persuasion is used a lot to convince people to believe in what they are saying. Although Brutus used a lot of good reasonings involving pathos, Antony delivers the more effective speech because he knew Caesar more and he was much closer to him
Brutus uses pathos in his speech by talking about slavery. He says, “Who is here so base that would be a bondman?,” “Who is here so rude that would not be a Roman?”, and “Who is here so vile that will not love his country?” At the end of Antony's first big speech, he uses pathos by saying, “... And I must pause till it come back to me.” Antony has to stop because he was getting emotional over the death of his friend.
In William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar," two powerful speeches are given by Mark Antony and Marcus Brutus. Both speeches are delivered at Caesar's funeral, and each orator seeks to sway the Roman citizens to their side. Although both Mark Antony and Marcus Brutus deliver powerful speeches, Antony delivers the more effective speech because he appeals to the emotions of the people, provides evidence to support his claims, and undermines the credibility of the conspirators. Mark Antony appeals to the emotions of the people. Antony's use of rhetorical questions and repetition, such as "Brutus is an honorable man," is designed to challenge the credibility of Brutus and the other conspirators.
Power comes with great responsibility and some people take advantage of that. When Antony found out about Caesar’s assassination, he ask to talk at his furnal and Antony makes a speech for the citizen to hear, so they could feel bad and feel like they should do something about it. In William Shakespeare's “Julius Caesar,” Antony uses rhetoric to get the Roman citizens to take revenge on the conspirators.
Brutus uses Pathos most out of all of the three Rhetorical appeals. He tries to use the crowds and the reader’s emotions to win their heart. As Brutus talks to the crowded they are very angry,so Brutus starts off by trying to cool them down. ”Be patient till the
