According to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick Carraway who is a narrator of the Great Gatsby expresses the instability of his attitude toward other characters in the novel. Nick starts to narrate a story with a neutral attitude, almost determined to not be judgment. Nick also seems to estimate himself as a good man with high standards for everyone he meets. However, his attitude is changed from refusing judgment to criticizing others after he removes to the East and makes new friends there. Nick believes that he is a trustworthy, but actually he is not. While the funeral of Gatsby is arranging, no one who closes with him comes. Nick promises, “I wanted to get somebody for him. I wanted to go into the room where he lay and reassure him: ‘I’ll get somebody for you, Gatsby. Don’t worry. Just trust me and I’ll get somebody for you—’.”(56) It confirms that Nick really sympathizes with Gatsby’s isolation and wants to protect him because Nick believes in friendliness of Gatsby to other people. He develops a loyalty to Gatsby. Moreover, Nick does not like Daisy’s action. He says, “…I could only remember, without resentment, that Daisy hadn’t sent a message or a flower.”(60) He already judges Daisy with this practice and cannot return to believe in her. He decides to stay at Gatsby side and does not contact to Daisy who breaks Gatsby’s hope again. Finally, Gatsby’s father, Henry, expresses the goodness of his son to Nick. Henry states, “He come out to see me two years ago and bought me the house I live in now. Of course we were broke up when he run off from home but I see now there was a reason for it. He knew he had a big future in front of him.
