Death, betrayal, and regret are all outcomes of the need for revenge. In Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley and adapted by Gris Grimly, Victor, the creature, and Elizabeth are all affected by revenge. Victor is one of the characters who is greatly affected by revenge. To start, the death of William and Justine started Victor’s hate for the creature. Next, Victor was put in jail for the monster’s revenge. Victor was accused of murdering Clerval and sent to prison. Not only did Victor’s friend die, but he was accused of it as well. “But I was doomed to live; and, in two months, found myself in a prison, stretched on a wretched bed.”(151) Lastly, the creature’s final revenge on Victor left him with nothing. With Elizabeth dead and his father dying shortly afterward, Victor has no one left but the monster. “But revenge kept me alive; I dared not die, and leave my adversary in being.”(173) The monster’s final revenge left Victor with no one, and led him to lead the rest of his life chasing after the monster.
