Using metaphor to discuss difficult issues Monkey See Monkey Do performed by Richard Gadd depicts Gadds struggle with anxiety, which is manifested in the form of a giant monkey. The show opens with him running on a treadmill whilst he interacts with both video and audio, the image of the monkey appearing when he is struggling with his inner thoughts and feelings. Gadd explores conventional themes of masculinity in a humorous manner, whilst running in pink sweat bands and lycra shorts. He eventually stops five minutes before the finale, where he takes off his costume, steps off the running machine and addresses the audience to divulge the cause of his anxiety. He discusses briefly his own experience with sexual assault and encourages people to seek help if like him they have experienced similar life traumas.
