Richard Lewis focused on multiple craft moves in his book The Killing Sea, such as setting up the problem and providing the context/background Information. This help introduce the characters to give us that kind of connection to the main characters and show that they had a normal life before all of this happened. He also uses these to help us understand the characters better The author uses craft move one, to set up the problem. He sets up the problem really early but it helped us learn about what the damage can do to the town. On page 1 of The Killing Sea, It states "The nightmare again. The water rushed in from nowhere, from everywhere, swallowing him in an instant. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't find a way out." This helped inform us that the tsunami is close and will be the main problem in the story. Ruslan was the one dreaming about the tsunami, he didn't know what it meant but he has been having them for a while. Every time he had the dream he would see everything get destroyed as he started to drown and slowly would slip away from the world, then he would wake up. This goes to show that the tsunami is going to be big and will destroy a lot of the town, it will also kill hundreds of people. …show more content…

On page 6, we learn a lot more about Ruslan. "No good mechanic, a very good artist. He makes your picture, okay?" "Bapa," Ruslan muttered, feeling heat flood his cheeks, although he was pleased. Many fathers would have scolded their sons for such a worthless talent that didn't put rice on the table, but his father was proud of him. he planned to send Ruslan to an arts college in Jakarta." This helps us learn more about one of the main characters and get to know him as a person
