How Does Technology Affect Obesity

Everything around us might affect positively or negatively on our bodies and health. People all around the world have different body sizes. Some people have Normal weight, some are overweight, and some are obese. Individuals with BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 are considered to have normal weight, if BMI is between 25.0 and 29.9 they are overweight, while people with BMI 30.0 or greater are obese. Obesity is gaining extra calories from food that contains carbohydrate and sugar. A significant amount of people is facing an increase in weight. Obese people face many challenges and difficulties in their lives compared to other people. People always look at them from a different aspect. They do not have personal freedom because wherever they go people stare at them either in restaurants, shopping centers or in supermarkets. We are living in a world of technology, where everything is faster and easier to access. On the other hand, advanced technology is causing a serious problem such as obesity. The way we use the ICT is associated with obesity. People spend hours watching television, playing computer games and browsing the internet. Televisions constantly show food advertisements and stimulate the spectator to eat more food, even though they are not hungry. Eating food increases intake of energy. Because they are sitting all the day and not making any physical movement, they are not consuming the energy. When the Intake of energy is more than expenditure it leads to gain more calories which cause obesity. While people are sitting in front of the computer. They are getting snacks like (chips, chocolates, and biscuits) which contain a large amount of carbohydrate and sugar. The increase in snacks leads to rising in energy intake and this is the main reason for individuals to gain extra
