Lois Lowry’s “The Giver”, is a utopian book where all the people are equally treated, and where there are no emotions, colors, opinions, pain, fear, and war. The Givers and the receivers are the only people who have emotions and memories. Jonas is assigned to be the next receiver in the community. He finds out the secrets that were hidden by the community and decides to release the memories through his courageous character, intelligence, and difference from others.
Jonas had a very special assignment that requires a lot of courage. Before the assignment was given to Jonas, the leader of the community says “The receiver himself was not able to describe it [the pain], that you would be faced with it [the pain], you would need immense courage”

However, nothing is as it seems. Most of the things are changed, and nothing is similar to previous citizens regulations, or any other rules that does not exist anymore because the community brought up the process of “sameness”. The elder people in the community do not want people to be aware of things such as emotions, colors, memories and the meaning of release, so they are trying to hide these facts from the community. Jonas is able to ask questions about anything he wants. On the other hand, other people from the community are not allowed to ask questions. Moreover, as Jonas gets the memories from the Giver, he starts to compare and start questioning things in his current world and the past. So when the Giver shows Jonas what release means; He says “ I won’t! I won’t go home! You can’t make me! Jonas sobbed and shouted and pounded the bed with his fists” (152). Jonas is shocked because he is not expecting the meaning of release was death. He realizes that the community is actually hiding a lot of things from the people. Furthermore, he decides to make a plan to release the memories for everybody, so they could feel emotions, see colors again, they will understand what really release
