The impact of the past on the present in The Kite Runner In the book The Kite Runner there are two main characters which happen to be half-brothers but they just don’t know it. Amir, the first brother, knows he is Baba’s son and knows his mother left his father when he was born. Hassan, the second brother, believes he is Ali’s son, when really he is Baba’s son because Hassan’s mother had an affair with him. When Amir and Hassan were younger, Hassan helped Amir by defending him when they met Assef in the alley. Later on, when Hassan was being sexually assaulted by Assef, Amir ran off and didn’t return Hassan’s favor. Many years later the boys are all grown up with wives and kids, Amir was now living in America with his new wife, Soraya. The Hazara were considered to be less important than the Pashtuns. When the Taliban was told that there was a Hazara family living alone in a Pashtun house they went to the house to check it out. When the Taliban got there they discovered that Hassan and his family were living in Baba’s old house. The Taliban demanded that Hassan’s family leaves but when he protested they forced him out onto the street made him kneel and hot him in the back of the head, Farzana ran out screaming in terror after Hassan was shot and they shot and killed her also.
