The main cause of deaths in the USA is because of people smoking cigarettes. Tobacco has been around for many centuries. It was used by the settlers of the first American colony in Jamestown, Virginia in the year of 1612, as of many other cash crops such as corn, cotton, wheat, sugar, and soybeans. Out of these crops, tobacco was the very first one to be grown and sold for money in North America.
Alike many others things in this world, the use of tobacco has changed drastically. Back then, Native Americans smoked the tobacco for medical purposes and special religions. By the 1800s, on average, people smoked about forty cigarettes a year. Some people rolled the tobacco into a cigarette or cigar. Some even chewed it. People didn’t see that smoking cigarettes was a bad thing until people started to cough very heavily and frequently.

People are very different and so are their bodies. For example, a 20 year old who has been smoking for five years can be diagnosed with lung cancer. On the other hand, a 80 year old who has been smoking for his whole life could be cancer-free. It just all depends on how your body handles the chemicals in the cigarettes.

Many people may say that smoking a cigarette after a very stressful day makes them calm down and relax.
