When they feel like they are not being heard, they to do reckless acts of behaviors and it only gets more serious as time goes on. For example, a girl is constantly getting picked on because of her weight. This girl goes on to have an eating disorder and no one catches it. The abuse eventually leads her to self-harm. Such as depression or substance abuse or, as you read in the example, even as far as suicide if the abuse is serious enough.
