“In July 2012 Americans spent 74.0 billion minutes on social media via a home computer, 40.8 billion minutes via apps, and 5.7 billion minutes via mobile web browsers, a total of 121.1 billion minutes on social networking sites”(Are Social Networking). People all around the world use social media to connect, post, view and communicate. Social media sited arose around 1990s and developed with time. Social networking decreases live communication, but instead increases online communication. As well, some sites have restrictions, such as age limit, but most of the sites are free and open to everybody. Social media has its ups and down like any invention. Cyberbullies think they can bully online because it is easier to get the victim or to get revenge over them. Cyberbullying can happen because of entertainment or to just see how people react. According to “What Impact Has Social Media Truly Had on Society” by Jenny Q. Ta states that, “School children, young girls, and women can fall prey to online attacks which can create tension and distress.” This illustrates that people do take cyberbullying seriously and they end up making decisions that can impact ones future. Cyberbullying started when social networking became popular around 1990’s and now it still occurs. Let’s look at another article, “Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society?” it states that, “49.5% of students reported being the victims of bullying online and 33.7% reported committing bullying behavior online. 800,000 minors were harassed or cyberbullied on Facebook according to a June 2012” (Are Social Networking). Many know that cyberbullying can result in many ways: suicide, stress, school related problems, or even health issues. Now day’s cyberbullying been really common to experience in one’s life.
