The Premium service removes ads, provides improved audio quality, and allows offline listening (Spotify Premium, 2016). The service gives you access to more than 30 million songs (Allsopp, 2016), which are available on a variety of devices (computers, smartphones, smart TVs, gaming consoles). In music, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Buddy Holly and Marvin Gaye were the most prolific people on the world stage. Marlon Brando, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe ruled the cinematic stage. However, the major highlight of this era was the dawn of technologies involvement in our life. Radio, television and all electronics in general no longer became wants but needs. Once somebody owned one they were aware of everything happening around them, knew what’s hot and what’s not and could be easily persuaded to buy the newest vacuum cleaner model or dress from the shops.
Nowadays, record labels and artists cannot persuade listeners to ‘buy’ their music. It is believed that the aspect of music has changed due to the popularity of music streaming. Allen (2013) agreed by stating that music streaming has changed the view of people in the industry of music. For example, popular music streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora and a number of new music streaming applications provide the easiest way for listeners to enjoy music freely without having to do illegal downloading or buying a CD. Likewise, Listeners have the ability to choose the music they want to listen.
The Walkman Imagine not being able to listen to your favorite music as you please. Music is a beautiful thing that we often take for granted, because we are so used to having it wherever we go. Throughout the 1970’s many strives in the technology world had been taken, including the introduction of the Walkman by Sony. The walkman forever changed the way we listen to music by having songs pre-recorded, and being able to listen to them wherever you please.
Early music communities learned that the relationship between physical space and the rules of music consumption, defined the boundaries of musical style. Musical space moved from the church, to the concert hall, to clubs, to the dance floor, to physical CDs, to online data. The rituals surrounding these spaces of listening, help audience’s understand their role as listeners. A concert hall asks the listener to hold a concentrated, and physically quiet relationship with the music. A dance club asks the audience to experience the music with their bodies.

Every person has some specific preferences in music genres depending on cultural preferences and emotional conditions. The fact cannot be denied that the technology has drastically affected the music industry in recent days. The society has incorporated the advanced technology in their lives and it has changed the manner they hear the music. One of the huge changes in the music industry is that now they can collaborate with anyone all over the globe, who have a different background, music style and culture. Earlier the visual and acoustic elements of the music were a necessary duo but for the first time, they have been separated because of the up gradation in audio engineering.
Streaming services have taken over the music industry. There was some suspicion in the wake of music piracy platforms like Napster, but users are now willing to pay subscription fees for access to libraries of music. According to the researches, the tendency of resting digital music, which shows a great increase especially in the last two years, is expected to increase further in the future and the usage of online music services will increase because music is an event that is thought never to be destroyed and as long as technology continues to develop.

Our generation mainly listens to music through a variety of streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. These streaming services require smart technology such as tablets and computers. However, the preferred media device for this generation is the smartphone. They offer a user-friendly interface and portability, allowing them to be the preferred music media device for this generation. The advancement of technology leading to the illegal digital copying of music has negatively impacted the music industry by bringing down record sales; however, some proponents state that this issue of digital copying has improved how musicians make money by allowing for alternate ways to make a living with their music. Technology has brought us to a point where anyone with access to a computer and internet is able to download music for free at the click of a button. With a little help from file sharing websites, people are able to share the music that they own.
