The American Dream Changing Over Time
The American Dream is a concept that has many different meanings, but the idea is that anyone, anywhere, can be successful in America. Every generation should enjoy greater life than the generation before them. The evolution of the American dream has changed drastically over the years. From the start of it, 1930 to 2023, so much has changed, from generations, ideas, etc. It is said in an article, “That’s why one of the most prominent, well-known, and revolutionary catchphrases of the United States, for close to 90 years, has been the idea of living the “American Dream” (Bankrate 1).
First, in the 1930s the American dream was simple it was not about the newest iPhones, or scoring the newest credit cards.

More people heard about this, only because of these movies. The American dream most likely would not still be a thing today if they would not put it in movies and books. Martin Luther’s King speech, it really started to occur more. As this website says, “I Have a Dream” speech when he shared that his vision was one that was “deeply rooted in the American dream” (Bankrate 5). Although movies and such were a very big impact, the American Dream also started to reappear in 1946 and 1964. It started to reappear because this is when the baby boomers were having very good lifestyles. It says this, “A large percentage were able to own a home, drive a new car, and have two or more children because they could afford it” (Mollenkamp 2). This was the time of partying, the time wealth was huge. It was the era that everyone wanted to be in. This is when the American dream really took off.
