Over time, societal values have evolved along with a society's sanctions, and normalities. These changes have affected many topics like marriage,racial relations, and gender roles in a society. these changes affect the way a society functions and succeeds.
Gender roles in society have been affected over time due to an evolution in societal values. For instance, before the second world war, women had to stay at home and do housework. They were sent home when they were teenagers so they would learn how to cook, clean, and do other house chores. However, after the war was over women received equal rights and were able to receive the same education as men. This resulted in a larger quantity of women going to college and joining the workforce instead of being a housewife. Another example of a change in gender roles would be in the workforce. During the second world war, the majority of the men in america would go to fight in the war. this resulted in a lack of workers to manufacture bullets, boats, …show more content…

For example, gay marriage has been illegal for centuries.It has been one of the most unacceptable things to do in the United States.This soon changed in 2015 when gay marriage was declared legal by a supreme court ruling. Along with gay marriage, adultery is also one of the most shunned actions in a marriage. During the biblical era, if a woman commits adultery outside of a marriage then she would be stoned to death. As opposed to being stoned, women (or men) can simply file for a divorce instead of having to face such cruel punishment.Additionally, the values of marriage have also evolved in the terms of consequential actions towards unacceptable behavior.
