The article analyzes how Millennials are on the brink of a mental-health crisis due to the increase usage of smartphones. The differences that define generations have always been prominent, however, there has been an abrupt shift in teen behaviors and emotional states since the Great Recession in 2009. The millennial generation, referred to as iGen, has been shaped by the advent of smartphones and the increase usage of social media. Today’s teens are physically safer, however, they are on the brink of a devastating mental-health crisis.
The cell phone is an invention that hugely impacted today’s society. Now, almost everyone has a cell phone and uses it constantly throughout a day. The design of a cell phone has also changed since the seventies. The first phones were roughly two pounds, now the average phone is 113 grams. The use of a cellphone has also changed since the 1970s.
In Jean Twenge’s article, “Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?” Twenge paints a picture of a generation so obsessed with their phones that it’s leading to disastrous consequences. Twange argues that the negative changes in teens today are directly caused by their cell phone usage and fails to recognize the many different factors the go into these issues. And while some of Twange’s issues are valid, they are not necessarily issues with smartphones, but issues of a changing society.

The reason for Twenge writing this article was because Twenge talked to a 13-year old girl about smartphones and realized how things have changed greatly over the years. Twenge informs the reader how about ¾ American teens own an IPhone in 2017. The author then goes on to compare recent years to earlier years.

Sandel's purpose is to inform the reader on how money and markets are taking over our lives, becoming more important than morality, and hurting those who have less money. The purpose is shown all throughout the essay, and even in the first line when he says "There are some things money can't buy, but these days, not many," (Sandel 40). He further shows his purpose by discussing the Era of Market Triumphalism. Sandel made himself out to be intelligent and caring.

I have been around technology ever since I was young, with cars, phones, televisions, etc. so I don’t really see too much of a drastic change between a time with little technology to a big boom in technology. I am starting to see a change in new technologies, however, as new inventions come out all of the time. I notice how in the classes that I used to take are now much different for my sisters, as they are doing much more of their learning online. My cousin’s school gives all of the kids mini ipads and they turn in assignments on it.
First of all, I am able to use a mobile phone in mostly everything that I do. For example, if i need to contact somebody that is overseas, I am able to do this with a mobile phone.
