Why is dog fighting still such an issue in America if it’s illegal? Gia LaRosa Dog fighting is a cruel and disgusting form of entertainment for low life people. I believe that dog fighting still occurs even though it is illegal, because it still brings in a lot of money. People still find amusement in the torture of the dogs. Dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states, but still takes place in secret and organized groups. It is wrong because dog fighting is animal cruelty and disrupts the youth. The appeal of dog fighting seems to come from the sadistic enjoyment of a brutal show, or so called “performance.” I believe that this is still such an issue because minors are often brought to these events to “toughen them up” When young people are exposed to such horrible acts, it causes them to grow insensitive to animals. The more that kids are unprotected from these vicious events, the less they will start to care. The children who are brought up around dog fighting, are usually forced at first to participate and raise and train their own dog. The dogs who lose the fight cause the owner to lose money so the dog is often tortured, set on fire, electrocuted, shot, drowned, or beaten to death. If the dog wins the fight, it is often quite beat up as well so they end up collecting the money and abandoning the dog. If the dogs used in fighting, are re-homed they’re very traumatized and usually can't be around other animals or small children. The extent of the abuse causes extreme, long term drama. It is very difficult to rehome the dog and give them a better life so they are often just put down.No animal deserves to go through such a terrible
