In the essay “Abortion: An Issue for All Society” by John Doe, the author successfully answers the question of: “Is abortion a uniquely female issue?” and supports his thesis with multiple sources of evidence. Doe believes that abortion is a societal issue, and he claims that “Society’s view on the value of life and the fathers parental rights are both essential aspects of this issue and deserve to be included in the conversation.” (1) In the second paragraph, he references Hemingway’s short story as well as Stanley Renner’s article. He unsuccessfully illustrates how the evidence from the short story and article relate to his thesis that abortion is a societal issue. He uses a credible and relevant source to support his claim and analyzes it properly. One part of the analysis that stood out was the last two sentences of the paragraph. He writes, “They devalue the father’s right even though the pregnancy happens only when both are involved. A fathers rights need to be fought for through the court systems to protect their parental position.” There is clearly an issue at hand that the author is addressing and, in this paragraph, Doe is able to show why he stands where he does on this issue. Not only does he provide one source, but he continues to support his stance by referencing another article, “The men who feel left out of the US abortion debate.” Although some may not agree, it was beneficial for Doe to mention how both parents have a connection to the baby biologically, and ultimately abortion is the death of a family member. This was a strong source to add to his credibility within this essay, while also relating back to his
