The book To Kill a Mockingbird explores many ideas and themes. I have noticed that bravery is something that really stands out to me in this book. Bravery can be shown in many different ways. Many people think that courage is shown by “defeating the villain”, but it’s usually displayed in little actions that matter. Characters in this book such as, Jem, Scout, Atticus, and Tom Robinson have so much strength and courage. They are empowering and inspiring to people all around the world.
Atticus Finch is a character that defines courage.Atticus Finch lives in Maycomb county, where everyone knows everyone. He was asked to defend Tom Robinson, in a court case, knowing that he would be putting himself in danger. Tom Robinson was a black man who was accused of raping a teenage girl named Mayella Ewell, but Atticus and many other people thought that Tom was completely innocent. Atticus was brave enough to take the case for Tom, but he knew he would eventually get into trouble with other Maycomb folks. Jem would show Scout how brave he was by touching the Radleys house, (which they were told was too dangerous to go near) or saying he can do thing by himself, when really he couldn't.
