Atticus Finch is the father of Jem and Scout in the book To Kill a Mockingbird and is a lawyer of Maycomb. He receives honor by many people especially the Negroes after he defends Tom Robinson, a Negro, in a trial. Although he contains many traits, Atticus can be greatly described as kind, respectful, and responsible in parenting.
Throughout the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus does many kind things. For example, Atticus allows Mr. Cunningham to pay him in goods instead of money. Many mean people would want money instead, but Atticus is kind and takes an alternative. Atticus also acts kindly to black people. He defends a Tom Robinson, who happens to be a black man, in a rape trial. Atticus does this with his whole heart, trying the best he can to win the trial. Most men would not try too hard at all to defend Tom Robinson. Atticus receives a lot of hate from this action, but he still acts kindly to those people and does not end any relationship of their relationship. Mrs. Dubose says mean things about Atticus behind his back like, and he knows this. Despite this, Atticus treats her very respectfully. He greets her in a gallantly way right after Scout and Jem report her saying hurtful words. He would sweep off his hat and say something like, “Good evening Mrs. Dubose! You look like a picture this evening.” He treats black people very respectfully too. Most people would treat them unfairly and call them names, but that is utterly the opposite of Atticus’s values. Atticus tells Scout cheating a black person is ten times worse than cheating a white man. He wants black people to feel an equal level of fairness compared to white people.
