When you think of a mighty warrior most likely you think of a strong and brave male or female. Bilbo Baggins is quite the opposite. Bilbo is a tiny hobbit, scared of adventures and leaving his homely hobbit-hole. He may be tiny and scared but after everything that happened to him, he is a mighty warrior. In chapter one, he was told that he was chosen to go on a quest to get Thorin's gold back from the dragon Smaug after he and the twelve dwarves would have to slay Smaug. He agreed to go even though he knew that he might not come back. In chapter five, Bilbo gets separated from the others and rounds up in a dark cavern. Little did he know that more than 20 feet away was a murderous hobbit named Gollum. Gollum sneaked upon Bilbo and told him if he did not answer Gollum’s riddles he would kill him. …show more content…

Bilbo quickly outsmarted the murderous hobbit by asking what was in his own pocket. Gollum not knowing and frustrated had to stop and guess three times before he got angry and lounged at Bilbo, Bilbo backed up and proceeded to jump over Gollum to safety. Bilbo again shows that he is a mighty warrior in chapter 12 when he is told by Thorin to sneak into the dragon’s cave and to take an heirloom. “Above him the sleeping dragon lay, a dire menace even in his sleep. He grasped a great two-handled cup, as heavy as he could carry, and cast one fearful eye upwards.” (346). Bilbo’s journey is packed full with twist and turns and ups and downs, the place where he shows that he is a mighty warrior is at the end of the story. After an archer shot and killed Smaug in a battle, the news flow quickly around their country “that Smaug was dead!” (414).
