In the Gothic novel, “Frankenstein”, Mary Shelley employs the character Robert Walton to describe a tale of Victor Frankenstein’s horrible creation story. Throughout the text Shelley uses biblical allusions to give the reader a deeper understanding of the immoral actions Frankenstein took in creating life. The novel Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley and the book of Genesis in The Bible are both about a new being that has just been created. God and Victor Frankesntein created new life and put them in the world. The creation of the creature by Dr. Frankenstein parallels the creation of Adam in many ways. Still in their early stages of life both new beings have to learn how to fit in and try to please their creator. Both Adam from The Bible and the creature in Frankenstein are new forms of life and have to learn an unfamiliar way of life so they can fit in.

Victor's ambition and the subsequent abandonment of his creation lead to devastating outcomes, while the Creature's yearning for acceptance and love exposes the dark side of human nature. Through the contrasting experiences of Victor and the Creature, Mary Shelley highlights the importance of moral conscience and the consequences of failing to exercise it. Both Victor and the Creature exhibit moral conscience by acknowledging the ungodly actions they do throughout the novel.

In Walton’s case, he strives to discover new things and expand his scientific knowledge.
When one reads any book or magazine, one should always read from a Biblical standpoint. One should think through every sentence read to determine the writer’s worldview. However, in Mary Shelley’s book Frankenstein, the answer may be difficult to find. Readers should ask themselves, “Was Shelley presenting the Biblical worldview through her novel or was she expressing a different view of God, mankind, and nature?” If one reads using Christian worldview glasses, the answer to this question is a clear and resounding “no,” for Shelley’s ideas are different from the Bible’s.
Such passion is seen in Victor’s ‘noble intent’ to design a being that could contribute to society, but he had overextended himself, falling under the spell of playing ‘God,’ further digging his grave as he is blinded by glory. His creation – aptly called monstrous being due to its stature, appearance, and strength – proved to be more of a pure and intellectually disposed ‘child’ that moves throughout the novel as a mere oddity, given the short end of the stick in relation to a lack of familial figures within his life, especially that of parents.
