The short story “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, is about a man named Gregor Samsa, a travelling salesman who woke up in his bed one day to find that his body was transformed into a huge insect, a cockroach. Gregor battled himself trying to accept his new body and also tried handling with his hideous and selfish family. The movie “District 9” by Neill Blomkamp is about aliens who arrived on earth in South Africa. The aliens did not go to Earth to be destructive, gain control or conquer the planet, but, to find refuge from their home planet. The government separated the species, human/aliens. District 9 was the area where the aliens were populated. Wikus Van De Merwe, an agent from a company was sent to District 9 to drive out the aliens. During his time being …show more content…

In The Metamorphosis, Kafka says, “But Gregor did not have any notion of wishing to create problems for anyone and certainly not for his sister”, this line suggests that even though he transformed into an insect, he really never meant to create problems among his family and would absolutely do anything to gain acceptance from his family, mostly especially his sister. In District 9, after Wikus’s wife receives fake news about his relationship with aliens she says, “I can’t do this anymore, I don’t know what to believe. Is this true?” But Wikus was so hopeless and loved his wife so much that he tried cutting off his alien arm off to appear “human” again for her just because he loves her so much and would do anything to be with her again. Nevertheless, in the end of the film he fully transformed into an alien and the mothership left. Wikus made a rose of out metal and left it in their home, his love for Tania is what keeps her going. This proves no matter what form the main characters evolved into, they both loved the women in their lives
