James Gats/ Jay Gatsby James Gats or who most people call Jay Gatsby is a main character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous book The Great Gatsby. I picked Jay Gatsby because to me he was very intriguing, Gatsby started as a broke boy who went to war to make money to prove that he was good enough for Daisy Buchanan. I like the way that Gatsby treats Daisy even though she does not deserve it, and I dislike how he gets so angry so fast. I would say that Gatsby and I are very different, but one characteristic that we do have in common is that we both love hard. Gatsby’s character is like no one I have met before. Forget about Gatsby. At the beginning of The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway is having dinner with the Buchannans when he mentions Jay Gatsby, his neighbor. Nick explains Gatsby as leisurely and profound and that he gets the feeling that Gatsby wants to be alone. Gatsby throws parties every weekend, but no one knows who Gatsby is; some say he killed a man, some think that he is a German spy, and some say that he was just in the American army. All of this tells me that Gatsby is a quiet man, because no one knows who he is. Gatsby rose from his poor childhood in North Dakota and became a fabulously wealthy man. Gatsby went from poor to wealthy by organized crime, which included distributing illegal alcohol and trading stolen securities. Since Gatsby was a little boy, he hated poverty and the thought of wealth and sophistication excited
