But if my heart is not right, if I'm not living a life pleasing to God, I'm a failure” (White). Adversity and discrimination were bothersome to White throughout his youth. He turned to sports to prove that the discrimination against him was something he couldn't overcome. His determination, athleticism, and self-discipline made him a very successful athlete. His several breathtaking performances quickly gained the attention of others who didn't know him and his colleagues. Following his passion, he set up a base for himself that guided him through high school, keeping him determined and committed. His youth years were not perfect, but White still made the best of what he was given. He excelled in sports and did well in school, two qualities the NFL was very fond of. He started his career at the University of Tennessee. He quickly rose to the top along the defensive line, proving that he won't stop until he has overachieved greatness (Donahue). He earned All-American accolades, following his many breakthrough plays and overall sportsmanship. White also was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year, highlighting his dominance on the field and especially on the defensive line. White became the face of the movement, getting lots of hate and having multiple overwhelming and stressful conversations with the league. He went through so much to speak up for players' rights and in the end was considered a savior. Once the league finally agreed to accept free agency, it took off. White has gained a lot of interest from other teams. Being such a good defensive player, teams were extremely interested once he became a free agent, offering him so many different things to try and get him to sign on to their team. They knew his off-the-field determination and the overall aspect of life that made him desirable to a team. White wanted to make a new deal with the Eagles, but being a free agent, he considered his options and searched for a better-fit team for his talent. A team that would make him succeed in more ways than football, he conferenced with multiple teams and considered the offers, but ultimately chose the Green Bay Packers to sign with.
