The modern world is exceptionally complex, with many factors working together to create the societies we see today. Of these civilizations, none have the same effect as the Ancient Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was centered in Europe, but expanded into much of Asia and Africa. The countries that were created by the fall of Rome in turn expanded across the world. This chain of events ensures that no area in the world is without Roman influence. Rome is still relevant because of the surviving influences on entertainment, architecture, and religion.
Two of the biggest religions in the world are Judaism and Christianity, and both of them exist because of Ancient Rome. Both Judaism and Christianity caught their biggest footholds in Roman Greece, where the first men from these religions walked into philosophical debates and claimed the Roman shrine to unknown gods was devoted to Yahweh (Tim Cornell, 1992). The romans valued theater and concerts, so they created concert halls with specialized acoustics. Many concert halls and theaters, such as the Globe and the Rose, were made using these Roman designs. The Romans invented the circular seating amphitheater, which is mimicked in sports stadiums and backyards. By far the two most important creations of the Romans were the arch and concrete. Concrete was invented by the Romans and used as a strong, cheap, and easy material to build (John B. Ward Perkins, 1977). Most buildings today are still built using concrete, so they affects can be seen in almost any city or town. The other innovation was the arch, a way of supporting taller buildings and bridges with less material and work. It worked by having a central keystone distributing pressure out towards the walls instead of down, allowing tall bridges with less supports. This arch is the center of many modern bridges. Anywhere you go, you can see the Roman influence on
