1. There are numerous ways in which sexism is present in our media towards women. In advertisement, women are treated as sexual objects with no feelings. Women are wearing short clothing to appeal to men and or other views to gain more attention. They talk about women's physical appearance and target women on beauty standards and weight. Shows such as children beauty pageants attack young girls to teach them this is how they should be acting and looking at five years old. In comic strips and cartoons women are seen to be playing the dumb blonde and are stereotypically perceived to be the stupid beautiful girl with a perfect body who can not do anything while a smart strong man approaches and fixes everything. Women are often excluded from things men would be doing, for example, being the newscaster for the super bowl, it is an unattainable thought for some that women may have the same drive for sports and maybe can do a great or better job. …show more content…

Social identity theory is the theory that people favour ingroups over outgroups in order to enhance their self-esteem. This theory can be applied to sexism in a view from men. Men encompass beliefs such as the woman should stay home to cook, clean, and look after the kids while I earn the money and go out to work. Having powerful woman around could impose a threat to men's self-esteem hence why men put women in power down. To feel powerful it could be that men choose to sexually harass women to feel like that they have the power. It is not always men though who are sexist, women as well keep to their own ingroups and outgroup.
