The Giver by Lois Lowry is a novel about a boy, Jonas who becomes the new receiver of memory. While he is the receiver, he experiences color and emotions, which the community did not have, they had sameness. The people there didn’t have emotions and couldn’t see color, only black and white and shades of grey. Jonas and the Giver wanted to give the memories to the people without Jonas dying. The Giver and Jonas both figure out a way for him to go somewhere else outside the community where there is color, animals and different weather.

The Giver is a curiosity-inducing fiction book by Lois Lowry. It will give you a sense of suspense that makes you want to keep reading to the end. For Jonas, gaining feelings changed his view of his community drastically. He feels more alone and wants to share the privilege with others, but he is forbidden. The Giver is timeless because it occurs in the “here and now” of an alternate universe instead of a certain time period of our world, be it in the past, present, or future. The long-lasting appeal of this work is at least partially due to the fact that because it can be interpreted in any way, the characters and the dilemmas that they face are relatable, and the ideas conveyed pertain to almost any point in time. Truly a moving and fascinating piece of literature, Lowry’s The Giver is a very relevant work that will continue to engage readers of all ages in deeper thinking and change the way that we see the world
In the book The Giver written by Lois Lowry, the main character Jonas’ community thinks their world is perfect when it's actually anything but. In the book, Jonas discoveries how bad their society really is. Their society has different geography, animals and ways of getting a job compared to today's society. Geography is what makes the landscape, it can be hilly or really flat.

A gray, boring, mundane life in the society of The Giver provides safety, though what lies behind the ruthless doors of release, something only a heartless criminal could achieve. Within the dystopian community of The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas the protagonist and Receiver of Memory realizes his community is oblivious by not given any choices, but to follow the rules, or else, to perish. In this surprisingly terrifying novel, Lowry implies a constant theme of sameness creating protection and safety ,but when people’s choices, diversity, and memories are taken away, citizens lose the right of equality and only endure a monotonous robot like lifestyle. . Throughout the Giver, people commanded and stalked by the government, but still follow all of the absurd laws that create a corrupt society.
Giver Essay “The Giver” by Lois Lowry is about a boy, Jonas who has been chosen to be the receiver of memory in his community. The elders see Jonas as their next receiver of memory because he has the intelligence, courage, honesty, kindness, and curiosity, These traits help him gain the position of receiver of memory. The Giver is one of the smartest elders in the community is the only one with Jonas who has the memories. The memories were kept by the two people because the community couldn’t handle them so only the two people have to feel the pain and happiness in the memories. The community also eliminates the freedom of choice from the people because the elders decide everything for the people who live there.
In the book “The Giver”, the main character, Jonas, learns many hidden truths about his community as he grows older. He has many emotional problems dealing with this, including quarrels with his closest friends and growing apart from them and his family. Because of this, I believe that the theme of the book is coming of age, since hardships similar to those come with growing older in realistic situations. Jonas gains maturity towards the end of the book through learning that he has to escape his dystopic society to save his loved ones, even if they may not love him back. He wants to ‘release his memories’ to make it possible for his friends and family to be able to experience true feelings, and ‘set them free’ from their lifestyle.
The Giver is the quintessential example of the detrimental effects of excessive censorship. The novel takes place in a utopian world where all emotion/ love has been stripped from the citizens of “Community”. The world is a monotone, personality drained void where choice has been eliminated from everyday life. The maturation novel follows a young boy named Jonas. At the start of the novel, he is twelve years old and is given the position of “Receiver of Memories” at the Ceremony of Twelve, an initiation into adulthood which determines one’s career.

Jonas started to feel isolated since only the Giver himself and young child Gabriel could understand the same true emotions that he is dealing with . I have read the novel, “The Giver”, written by the famous American writer Lois Lowry. This book was written under author’s impression after visiting her aging father in the hospital, who had lost his long term memory. The idea of the book is the importance of memory. The novel is set in a society which seems like utopian, in this society there is no hunger, sadness, or misery. However this utopian society is held from experiencing true emotions.
