In the book The Giver written by Lois Lowry, the main character Jonas’ community thinks their world is perfect when it's actually anything but. In the book, Jonas discoveries how bad their society really is. Their society has different geography, animals and ways of getting a job compared to today's society.
Geography is what makes the landscape, it can be hilly or really flat. In Jonas´ society they have no geography. Their land is flat. In The Giver on pages 106 and 107 it says ¨He wondered what lay in the far distance where he had never gone. The land didn't end beyond those nearby communities. Were there hills Elsewhere? In modern society there are hills everywhere. If people around looked in today's society, they would probably find a hill. In some cases, people might even see sinkholes that go hundreds of feet into the ground or mountains that go thousands of feet tall.

In their society they don't want people to have feelings. In present day society, when people see a puppy, they want to pet and play with it and take it home with them, but that is showing affection. Jonas´ society does not like people to have feelings or love for each other so they take a pill to stop having feelings. On the other side, the citizens of today love animals. Today's society has average of 43% of all houses in the the modern society have a dog. Not all animal are domesticated but we still have a place for them called the Zoo. But for the animals that are domesticated, people love them and always another
