On these days, the extra hour helps me to trudge through the school day and the long hours of activities I have afterward with some energy left to spare. If one hour keeps me energized throughout the day, then imagine an extra hour on school mornings everyday. For this reason, implementing a later start and end time in high schools across the country will not only benefit students mentally but also
Changing school start times can have negative effects on family schedules, extracurricular activities, and after-school jobs. Modifying school start times can disrupt family schedules, especially if parents need to adjust their own work schedules to accommodate the new start times. This can cause stress and inconvenience for families and may affect their ability to manage their daily routines. Many students participate in extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and clubs, that take place after school. Changing school start times could mean that these activities need to be rescheduled, which could create conflicts with other activities or lead to reduced participation.
Having later start times can benefit kids in many ways such as improving their grades. When schools have later start times, students can wake up later and be more awake leading to them being more attentive in class and getting better grades. Researcher Finley Edwards “Found that math scores improved by 2 percentile points and reading scores by 1 point in middle schools that moved to a later start time.” Students might end up being tired in class because they didn't sleep long enough the night before leading to them not learning in class that may result in worse grades that the student is capable. Students grades and staying on task can be improved by having schools start later.
The world is always changing, always having new ideas impacting the future of the human race. Students success is where everything begins because they are the future of how the world is going to turn after our parents are gone. In an essay, written by Malcolm Gladwell, he expresses the idea of having more school days than required so students can learn in at a slower pace like “working on a single problem for twenty minutes”(10) in class instead of being rushed because of the lack of time. Having more school days will help students have more time to work on academics thoroughly in order to help them succeed in their future. “I think that extending the amount of time gives you the chance as a teacher to explain things and more time for kids to digest everything that’s going on--to review, to do things at a much slower pace .
After reading the article Time To Think on they were debating rather have longer school days or normal school days. So the two sides of the debate were 6 ½ hour long school days or turn it to 7- 8 ½ long school days. It is obvious that they both want the same thing is to give us the best education possible. But, the thing is that we need to not just think about how long to make the school. What about the kids?
This is an important issue because starting schools later has many positive effects. Some positive effects of starting school later is improvements in grades, test scores, and overall performance in core subjects. Another positive effect of starting schools later is that students will be more attentive, have a better memory, a better mood, and a better behavior and executive function. A third positive effect of starting school later is that it gives students the extra sleep they need to perform at the body’s peak ability in academics and physical
Heather begs It is winter again. I feel like it's always winter here. I am going to meet my friends t the mall but, I see Heather on the side of the road. She got what she deserved I thought to myself.
They often struggle to finish their work on time because they’re engaged in conversations or things other than their assignment. Others sleep during class or skip and miss the lesson all together. This is a big part of the problem and longer school days will do nothing to fix it. Also, students get distracted during school as it is. Additional hours will increase the number of students who are off task which will defeat the entire purpose of longer school
That’s twelve hours. Adding to the time at school comes with less sleep or free time after school. After school most people have hobbies like like to playing games, sports, or on our phones, But staying at school for nearly half the day will limit us from doing that. That 's just no fun. Some people may say that having a four day weekend gives students a three day weekend to enjoy themselves more, but in reality, we are having less of a summer break, we are having longer school days which can cause stress in the long run, and they will have less holidays breaks during the school year.
Schools should start no later than 8:30 AM. One reason is the extra hours of daylight saved by starting earlier can be used on after school and extracurricular activities. In the article “What is the Advantage of Having School Start Early” by Marie Anderson paragraph three it states that “There are many sports in the school and in extracurricular activities that use daylight to practice outdoors and if the school starts even a half an hour later that is still a half an hour of daylight wasted. It also gives kids who walk home after school the advantage of the extra half an hour of light.” I agree with this because I am an outdoorsy person and during football, track, and hunting season it is nice to be able to go hunting after football practice.
Many people argue whether school start times should stay the same or become later in the day. Most students already don't get enough sleep during the night and that can affect their learning experience in school (Wahlstrom). However some positive effects can still come from waking up early in the morning and getting to school around the same time. Although good can come from waking up early in the morning and sleeping in, students still need later school starting times to improve their overall health.
And it helps students ability to learn. One reason school times should start later is because it will help students catch up on sleep. “Sleep deprivation has become virtually epidemic among American teenagers. Research suggests that adolescents require about 8.5 to 9 hours of sleep, but according to the National Sleep Foundation, only 14% achieve this goal.” said Julie Peorgers from The Brown University Child and Adolescent Behavior Letter. Not acquiring the recommended amount of sleep can have repercussion of the human body and brain.
There are 24 hours in a day, 8 of those hours belong to school. From the moment when a student wakes up, they begin to prepare for school then go to school, most schools start around 8:00-9:00 am, so most students get up 1-2 hours earlier to get ready. Students need at least 8-9 hours of sleep to be able to function. With students having after school activities that take up around 2 hours, students are exhausted and when they get home all the want to do is relax, but some of them have responsibilities that they have to do, which gives them less time to relax from a long day of school. On top of having homework students end up staying up late getting all their work done, which cause them to be less focus the next day not allowing the
I gained this information at Debate.org which also says “Image how much stress it would be on all students and the poor teachers! What about them and how are we suppoed to pay for three hours, they already stay at school planning so will have no time left at all!” On a website called Education.seattlepi.com says that other people that extend the time of school isn’t going too give students more learning, it also says that “If the methods used currently aren’t working, spending more time using those same methods isn’t going to change
Climate Change – How important is awareness of the causes of climate change? I am interested in this topic because it is one of the most important problems we face today. Climate change affects not only to humans but also to all living things. Global Health becomes worse and worse because of the change, and it is now significantly be seen. Global warming, the ozone layers being damaged, deforesting, rivers drying up, unbalancing ecosystem and different kinds of pollution lead to certain climate change.
