The Public School and Religion

Due to the Bill of Rights as Americans we have the rights to Religious Freedom. I believe because this right the public schools should accept religious views to be respected inside the schools walls. Christopher Hitchens once said, “Religion is a part of the human makeup. It is also a part of our cultural and intellectual history. Religion was our first attempt at literature, the text, our first attempt at cosmology, making sense of where we are in the universe, our first at attempt at health care, believing in faith healing, our first attempt at philosophy.” BrainyQuote.com
I am not some type of religious loon who believes a certain type of religion should be taught and practiced inside the public schools. I believe children of any religion should freely be allowed to express their views without feeling like there is a price to pay. Breaking the ice between religion and public schooling would promote more diversity. Not allowing one makes people close up. It also causes individuals to lose on discovering one another. Southworth makes a very good point about letting teachers and instructors apply their spiritual values inside their classroom. This would set well examples to the young minds they are teaching. It is not allowing the religion to be taught its self, however it does teach morals and values more importantly it is teaching respect. Keeping children engaged to the kindness and goodness that just about every religion teaches will rub off over the years and become adapted as they began to create their own personality. These values and morals could also help children pay attention to what the lesson has to offer, making them come to better understanding of
