The United States of America was founded by people who were mainly trying to escape from some religious laws, to gain religious freedom or religion equality. Most of America 's first immigrants were Christians, therefore is no surprise the country is built on and with Christian morals. During 1980 a large population of immigrants came into U.S, this group of immigrants came from 5 different continents, with different religious backgrounds. However, the largest religious group among this large population of immigrants were Christians. About one-third of this immigrant who are not Christians find it difficult and unsafe to stay in a country where Christians seem to have an upper hand, very few of this people have stepped out from their comfort
Religion has always been a big part of the American culture however the American constitutional separation between church and state have teethed on the edge of collapse as religious fundamentalists tried to blur the line between the separation. The Scopes “Monkey” Trial brought to the forefront the heated debate in the religious battle to overturn the Butler Act which forbade public schools science curriculum in Dayton, Tennessee from including evolution. John scopes, a high school biology teacher, employment was suspended for violating the Butler Act, and this brought the American Civil Liberties Union to his defense in part to mount the first legal challenge against the Butler Act, in order to bring to the forefront of national and international debate the role of religion in secular education. The debate has come full circle and is again a hot topic as public educators are confronted with the fundamentalists insisting upon the teaching of religious ideology as part of secular school curriculum and similar demands for prayer and the elimination of the teaching of evolution in public schools.
However, I would prefer if my child attended a Catholic so they could learn the same values that I have learned. I do not think I would raise my child to be very religious but I do want them to have a background of the Roman Catholic
Sasha, parents with different religion learn to compromise with each other and sometimes just not talk about it to avoid long debates. People in different beliefs may have worldview conflicts, but they learn to be respectful about it with each other. Majority of the times, having dual-faith education are enriching and will strengthen families and benefit children
“Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life” (Buddha). Throughout different time periods religion has impacted the society in which people live. Religion has and continues to dictate the rules citizens have to follow in all areas, especially social, educational, and political. Religion influences morals, values, and people’s identities. Many people turn to religion for not just spiritual answers, but for guidance and help in everyday life.
Beliefs seem to be the core of all the unfortunate things going on in the world today. Many extremists try to force their religion on others with violence, and it is becoming a problem. Many people tend to use religion to their advantage to gain power. On the other hand religion can be used to help individuals through hard times and to gain salvation. Overall, the positive aspects of religion outweigh the negative aspects.
If one religion is allowed, then all must be, for no one religion is above any other. This has been a cause for controversy for as long as I have been around. Should be able to pray at school? Should money be allocated to religious based school groups? Should religion be a part of character
They cannot establish or encourage religion in the classroom.” Even though teachers and administrators cannot promote religion in school, they are still allowed to teach the cultural and historical value of a certain religion. According to another article online called, Prayer And the Public Schools Religion, Education, & Your Rights, it has noted that “Students are allowed to read their Bibles during silent reading periods in class or pray in the halls or over their meals in the cafeteria.” Furthermore, schools do allow teachers and administrators to teach the diverse culture of a religion, and they also allow students to practice their religion
Many people have mixed opinions about teaching religion. I, however, believe that it is important to teach young people about ancient religions not just Catholicism to have a holistic view and understanding of our culture. By teaching them about the world's religions, we are filling gaps about our creation and how our culture came to be. For example without studying ancient Rome and Greece connect with Catholic ideologies, how Catholicism stemmed from these two religions or how they are founders designed the initial concept of democracy Learning to understand and appreciate other cultures religious histories and cultures allow students to gain a new found respect of diversity and develop an understanding of cultural differences. It provides all students with a rich and well-rounded knowledge of Australia's
Clearly we need to do something about this. Our nation needs God now more than ever. Allowing students to participate in a moment of prayer every morning is not a panacea for our nation’s problems, but it’s one step in the right direction. (Bergal) It’s
Why or why not? I don't think religion should be taught in the public school system. Kids have many issues facing them already in public schools and adding different religious ideas will make things worst. It's too many religions and it could possibly confuse your child, especially if you're trying to raise your child in your belief.
No matter where you are in the United States religion in schools will always be an issue. Once school districts allow religion to be in schools there will ne following arguments that will occur. A major problem being that you can not just allow one religion. Christianity can not be the only religion you allow. Different religions practice there religions differently.
Therefore, religion may seem far-fetched to most youths. This research is important
The idea behind this is that the children will understand that everybody is somebody and that everybody is unique in their own way and we need to respect
